For breeders
looking to introduce or develop fawn-coloured fleece within their herd,
Achilles could be a wonderful choice. He offers genetics from
super-fine medium fawn parents (sire: Ven Chura and dam: Juanita).
Juanita's 8th fleece was 21.7 micron (medium fawn). Achilles has a very
good high-frequency crimp style (curve of 52 on 2nd fleece & 51.2
3rd fleece).
His progeny have done extremely well in the show with Hermes winning:
- Supreme Champion Huacaya Fleece at the 2011
Canterbury A&P Show
- National Champion Junior Male Huacaya Fleece at the
2011 Expo
- Supreme Champion Huacaya Fleece at MacKenzie A&P
Show
- Champion White/Light Fawn Fleece at the Canterbury
A&P Show
- Champion Junior Male Huacaya Fleece at the Canterbury
A&P Show
- as well as a host of other broad ribbons (see Hermes' web page)
In addition, Cadbury (sold at the 2011 National Auction) has won
numerous awards (
see our show results page).
Achilles' show results include:
- Alpaca Expo 2008: Reserve Champion Senior Male
- Canterbury Show 2005: Champion Fawn
- Mavern Show 2008: Reserve Champion Fawn
- 1st place ribbons:
- Ashburton 2005
- Canterbury 2005
- Ellesmere 2006
- Alpaca Expo 2006 (fleece)
- Ellesmere 2007
- Malvern
2008
- Cadbury and Hermes were paired in Sires' Progeny at
the MacKenzie A&P Show and the judge said he awarded first place to
them based on their remarkable fleece structure similarity (despite one
being brown and the other white - from different mothers obviously).
In general, his cria have outstanding density, fleece coverage and
fleece length. These comments come through time and again for his cria
seen at the various alpaca shows.
